As much as I love being on the field, there is something so incredibly comforting about office work, surrounded by books. Specially when breaking in a new coffee machine. If anyone is up for a cup of coffee and some conversation feel free to drop by.

Has it really been almost a year since we lost Layla?

I would wonder if it will ever get any easier. But experience teaches us otherwise.

Just returned from Naples. The ghost sightings at the Palazzo Donn'Anna were quite challenging. The reports stressed how wailing and desperate the ghosts seemed, but once we settled in they were quite playful, trying to mess with the equipment and pretty much enjoying the attention. A couple of agents were a bit nervous with the whole thing though. But really, compared to some of the things we deal with around here, this was pretty tame.

I've brought along some pizza - real Neapolitan Pizza Margherita. I could eat only this for the rest of my life and be happy. And a Napoletana since we can never have enough coffee. They're all in the Mess Hall.

If anyone needs me this weekend I'll be in New York, I'm making a short trip to New York this weekend. A student is trying to debunk my paper on Zmey Gorynych and wants to show me her findings. This should be interesting.

Thank you, Lee!

I'm afraid I don't have anything as cool or interesting for you I sorta had it picked it up. But they won't let a minor buy it. Argh!

I hope you had a great Christmas.

Please play nice, Bobster...

Anyone wants to come down to R&D and help me get Bobster back in her cage?

Nov. 24th, 2009

Did anyone by any chance took the copy of The Confessions of Isobel Gowdie that I had on my desk? It's not the only one I have and under different circumstance I'd be happy to lend both books to whoever needs them, but the one I'm missing had notes and highlighted passages that I need to review. Seems that there's been more Isobel sightings than usual around Auldearn.

Please remember that while Bobster Johnson down at R&D is a mostly well trained capuchin monkey, if you do tease her - including and not limited to: rattling her cage, attempt to poke her, offer her candy and yelling at her - she can reach out and steal your candy bar/glasses/anything she can take away with a pull quite quickly

If despite this warning, you do try it, please contact me inmediatly and I'll see aout recovering your things (except for the candy bars. Those are as good as gone)

The whole Wernigerode Castle affair came down to a combination of misunderstandings/hoax/publicity stunt. Never ceases to amaze me how the combination of self-delusion and events that can be perfectly explained will play with people's perceptions.

At the end of the month, there will be a series of lectures at NYU regarding traditional vampire lore. I've been invited to be one of the speakers. Hopefully my schedule will allow it. Either way, I can guarantee there will be no sparkles.

Off to Wernigerode Castle tomorrow to investigate some ghost sightings. Play nice while I'm away.

I will bring back something tasty. Anything in particular you guys would like?

Considering the place's proximity to the Brocken Mountain, might be a publicity stunt, but our sources have been reliable on the past so it's worth a look.

In a nice follow up to my January work, the Saci sightings this time were true. These little guys were bening, but still a pain to deal with at first. Just your typical prankster creatures. Luckily once we got our hands into some tobacco and cachaça they were pretty happy to cooperate.

[Filter: Hellboy]

I brought you a bottle of dark cachaça. Well, three bottles since I remember you asking me for extra in case Faye tried to steal it wanted some. And I got a couple of whites too. They will be good to have around for the next party or if someone gets a cold.

To the kind soul who left the donuts on the mess hall: Thank you!

In not so pleasant news, what is the deal with college students trying do vampire based dissertations using Twilight as their main source? Please tell me this is just a passing trend.

Is anyone familiar with Shogi? I just received a set as a belated birthday present and it's been forever since I've played. Looks like a good way to relax.

I put the keys in your desk. I also changed the lock on Bobster's cage. The password is 2460. If she escapes this one I'm renaming her Houdini.

I have a bad feeling about this reevaluation. Things are tense enough already without people's work and position being threatened. Even those with nothing to hide could crack under pressure. This is not what we need right now.

After lunch, I drove my Aunt back to her hotel. Then headed to a bookstore where I met an old contact and bought half a dozen books. I also stopped by and bought the promised pastries. If I was being followed, my tail must had been very very bored.

Lunch with Aunt Jane was really good. She gave me a scarf and a box of chocolate. I'll always be five years old in her eyes.

I've bought some new books as well. My paper on dragons is finished and I have this idea for a follow up I'd like to look into.

You can find pastries on several of the break rooms. Happy search.

You have got to be kidding me.

I wanted to give Gray the benefit of the doubt. For better or for worse, he is our new Director. Until he pulled this off. To dismiss our work like that and start from zero? How is that making any progress? This is not about him taking the assigment away from us. This is about Layla and finding who did this to her. Starting over with a new team is not going to speed things up.

Aunt Jane is is town for the day. She wants to see me for lunch and give me an early birthday present. I must say that as much as I enjoy seeing my aunt, this time I have an extra reason to be happy for her presence. Gray may be a lot of things, but a fool is not one of them. I woldn't be surprised if the "former" Investigation Team is put under surveillance. The more they see us going back to our routines the better.

[Filter: All Personnel]
I need to go into town today on personal business. I'll bring pastries.

We can do this. We are too close to give up and we cannot let Gray take us down.

I'll be out most of the day. If you need me contact me on my cell phone.

I dread to think about Layla's death as an inside job. The evidence doesn't confirm this 100%, but it doesn't deny it either. The crime scene was disturbingly clean. Nothing like the Professor. There is no trail of breadcrubs. It hasn't confirmed or denied an outside job either. A very powerful outside job.

Celes is right though. We cannot rule anything out and nobody is going to rest until we find out the truth, whatever it may be. But I hope she's wrong about the killer being one of us.

I’ve been looking at old case files, looking for someone who may have a grudge against Layla and has the resources to pull this off. A couple of names could be worth checking. How are we doing with the autopsy report?

Be careful, guys. Who or whatever did this could be expecting someone to look into it.

I cannot believe this is happening. You don't expect to live long in this line of work but it never gets any easier when you lose someone.

It looks like it was only yesterday that we lost the Professor. And now Layla is gone.

There are no words.

My ankle seems to be healing nicely. It would heal faster if I followed instructions and got plenty of rest but where's the fun in that?. I've taken this time to clean around my office, which takes longer than I expected since every book I take I'll browse and be distracted for a while. I really need to put another bookshelf in here.

I also seem to be the proud owner of a Playstation. A very old, first model ever out Playstation. Why do I have this? A strange gift from a former student maybe. Would you guys want me to put it in one of the break rooms? I know we have more advance gaming systems but this one is working perfectly and it would be a shame to throw it away.

I may have sprained my ankle in Cleveland. Which didn't happen until containment was over and had a quick dinner with our goverment liason back there to discuss any further procedures. I slipped on the stairwell as we left the restaurant. I may not be the more action oriented agent, but having come out of worse things with nothing more than a few bruises and scratches, this feels wrong in so many ways.

Still, it's not a serious injury and I all I have to do is take ibuprofen for the pain and stay off my feet for a few days which I may not have followed at first. How could I not go and say goodbye to Mother?. If anyone needs me or just wants to talk, I'll be in my office, doing paperwork.
